Timing treatments to avoid irritation
Clients often ask us if a chemical peel treatment can be performed the same day as Laser Hair Removal. This is not uncommon, as a patient may schedule a series of consecutive skincare treatments to prepare for a special event. It’s important for us at New Life Laser to educate clients on the best treatment route to prepare skin for a peel in order to deliver optimal results and reduce the risk of complications.
New Life Laser & PCA SKIN® do not recommend chemical peels the same day as Laser Hair Removal Treatments. Laser Hair Removal requires laser light energy to penetrate below the surface of the skin, into the hair follicle which can lead to heightened sensitivity & resulting in temporarily impaired barrier function.
While our peels contain a blend of well-tolerated, safe and effective peeling agents, treatments may cause slight redness, flaking or dryness. These are normal, yet temporary, reactions to a superficial chemical peel. To minimize side effects and maximize results, patients should not receive a peel treatment until all skin reactions from laser treatments have fully resolved. Although everyone’s skin reacts differently to treatments, patients should generally wait two weeks post-laser, or until the skin returns to baseline, before receiving a peel. It is also recommended to wait at least two weeks after a chemical peel before another laser hair removal treatment.
New Life Laser strongly believes in the importance of pre- and post-treatment. Preparing the skin for in-office procedures and keeping it calm following treatment. Again, chemical peels should only be performed on skin that has stabilized from any prior treatments. Always discuss recent treatments with your esthetician before a chemical peel.
