Okay... What Are Toners?
We talk about skin every day and have found most of us have no idea the true benefits of toners. Many people are unaware of what toner really is or have misconceptions as to it’s true purpose
Sure, many of us slathered a cotton ball soaked with toner all over our zit-flecked faces as teens. However, all of us probably dreaded every second of it’s stinging, dehydrating destruction of greasiness. The toners we use today are nothing like those. In fact, the OG toners of the 90’s are now frowned upon by most of today’s skincare experts.
In the past, toner was deemed unnecessary, too astringent, incredibly drying. All of which were definitely not conductive to a radiant and healthy complexion. These days, toners do just the opposite. PCASkin toners are formulated with far more helpful, beneficial ingredients & lack the stripping properties of old school toners. This is why we LOVE them!
So What Is Toner?
To put it simply, toner looks like water and acts like water. But I swear it's not water. It's packed with so much more than hydrogen and oxygen. Depending on the toner, it also can contain acids, glycerin, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories.
If you want to talk science, a toner is a fast-penetrating liquid that delivers skin a quick hit of hydration and helps remove some dead cells off the surface of the skin. The result: plump, glowy skin. On a makeup-related note, toner is like a primer for the rest of your skin-care routine like serums and moisturizer, by bringing your skin back to it’s natural acidic state, sweeping away impurities & helping your skin absorb your skincare products. Your skin is like a dried-up sponge. If you put a thick cream on a brittle dry sponge, it won't accept it and it isn't 'prepped' for moisture. But if you wet the sponge, the cream will sink in more easily. Write that down, it’s important!
When should I use toner?
The short answer is "it goes after cleansing," we recommend including toner in both your day and night skin-care routines.
Oh yeah, and you should use a toner no later than a minute after cleansing. I know that sounds crazy, but it seriously helps. Most molecules penetrate the skin better when it is wet, so applying active ingredients immediately after cleansing delivers better results.
After applying toner, you can proceed with applying your treatment-focused products like vitamin fortified products & corrective treatments.
How should you use toner?
As for actual application method, we like to apply to a cotton round and gently swipe around our faces, working outward.
