Skin Discoloration & Dark Spots

With age, all skin types develop discolorations, also known as hyperpigmentation. Caused by years of chronic UV exposure, hormonal fluctuations, and inflammation, these discolorations and uneven skin tone are often more of a skin concern than other signs of aging like fine lines & wrinkles. Over time, discolorations can be deeply rooted in the skin, making them susceptible to reoccurrence, even with successful aesthetic treatments. Skin discolorations and dark spots appear when excess and irregular production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin color, occurs. Successful treatment for skin discolorations and dark spots requires exfoliating the surface of the skin and reducing melanin production and transfer to the keratinocytes, cells in the upper layers of the skin.

A COMPREHENSIVE REGIMEN TO TREATING SKIN DISCOLORATIONS

A comprehensive regimen for treating skin discolorations includes a brightening treatment, an antioxidant, and a broad spectrum sunscreen.

  1. Vitamin C Antioxidant provides advanced environmental protection against free radicals and helps diminish discolorations. Some of our favorites are PCASkin C&E Advanced and SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic.
  2. Brightening treatments help fade discoloration, improve firmness and reveal healthier, more radiant skin. (We Love PCA’s B12 Brightening Serum!)
  3. Broad Spectrum SPF shields skin from UV rays to prevent skin discolorations and dark spots. Remember: dark spots will come back without proper protection!
  4. We also recommend Medical Grade Retinol used at night to help stimulate cell regeneration and diminish existing skin discolorations. New Life Laser carries many options of Retinol product suited for every skin type, even sensitive skin!

Laser Skin Treatments

Professional laser skin treatments target the pigment on the surface of the skin. At New Life Laser we have multiple treatments available to target discolorations and dark spots on the skin. Which option is best for you depends on a number of things. At your first visit, a highly trained clinician will do an in-depth analysis of your skin to evaluate the best treatment plan for YOU specifically. Our treatment options range from targeting individual spots of pigment (like sun spots) to treating full areas of skin to reduce and eliminate discoloration, dark spots & achieve an overall even skin tone in the treated area. The most popular areas for discoloration & dark spot treatments are the Face, Neck, Chest & Hands but we have options available for any area of interest.
